Test Taking Strategies
Taking a test can be more tricky than just knowing the material. Here are some strategies to help your child do his or her best.
Test Preparation Strategies
- Be well rested with eight hours of sleep
- Eat a good protein breakfast
- Practice vocabulary you need to understand test questions
- Review material learned over many short study periods
- Exercise and Drink water (the brain likes both!)
- Practice the multiple choice format all the time
- Ask questions in class if you don’t understand
- Review with study cards and study groups
- Every day work hard to learn what teachers work hard to teach you!
- Do your best to get along with everyone the morning of the test!
Test Taking Strategies
- Read each problem carefully and identify (circle/underline) important words
- Eliminate obvious wrong answers
- Answer the questions you know first, skip the more difficult, go back to those later
- Check your work
- Hear or read the direction carefully
- Stay calm-Know you will do well
- Take your time
- Are you bubbling in the right number?
- Read the question, then all the answers, then read the passage
- See or draw out word problems in math
