Volunteer Program Information and Requirements
Gridley Unified School District welcomes parents, students, and community members to volunteer in support of our schools. Your involvement strengthens our school community and supports student success.
To begin, please complete the Volunteer Application. Depending on the nature of your volunteer service, you may be required to have fingerprint clearance and tuberculosis (TB) test results on file with the Human Resources Department.
Before You Begin Volunteering: Required Steps
All volunteers must complete the following prior to starting any volunteer activity:

Reminder: All volunteers must sign in at the school office upon arrival and sign out when leaving campus.
Megan’s Law & Sex Offender Clearance
All volunteer applicants are screened through the California Megan’s Law database:

Any applicant listed as a registered sex offender is prohibited from volunteering in any capacity—including for one-time events.
Volunteer Clearance Requirements
The need for fingerprinting and TB testing depends on the type of volunteer activity:

For individuals who:

Volunteer regularly or long-term

Are on school grounds or inside classrooms

Have direct interaction with students

May be alone with students (e.g., field trips)
Examples:

Classroom aides volunteering more than once

Anyone volunteering more than 16 hours/week

For individuals who:

Are under direct supervision of a staff member at ALL times (including emergencies)

Participate in one-time or limited-contact activities
Examples:

Parents observing their child’s classroom

Guest speakers or job-shadow hosts

Dance chaperones (one-time only) with staff supervision

Volunteers at athletic events (one-time only) with limited student contact

To ensure the safety of our students, fingerprinting provides a secure way to confirm a volunteer is legally permitted to serve in a school environment, per state law.

Each case is reviewed individually and confidentially. Minor offenses like traffic violations or older DUIs may not disqualify you.

No. Fingerprints are processed only through the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI for school-related purposes.

Fingerprinting does not need to be repeated unless your legal status changes (e.g., a new conviction) or you have been removed from the volunteer list due to an extended period of time not volunteering. You may check with Human Resources if you have fingerprinted with the District previously to see if new fingerprint clearance is required.
